"MY" RAILROAD TRACKS
(from NOLA.com)
I spent three hours in N.O. this summer on a layover from a cross-country Amtrak trip. We were SO excited to pull into N.O. We were tired, tired of traveling, ready for a brief adventure in a new town. These now-flooded tracks are surely the same ones we rode as we cruised past the Superdome.

I was going to write about that trip someday. I just hadn't gotten around to it. It was nearly dark when we arrived, so I wasn't able to take many pictures worth having. Here's a street in the French Quarter in happier times:

And a shot of a graveyard just west of N.O. taken from the train:

I don't know why I'm doing this...for myself, I suppose. I feel helpless.

It's impossible to imagine that a city would GO AWAY to the extent that we could never visit again. It's still impossible to imagine.

I wish I could have spent more than three hours. It was an exciting place...great food, my favorite kind of music costing nothing more than a walk down the street. I had plans, gone now.

I can't say any more right now. All those trapped people without food, drink, toilets; without knowing what will happen to them next...

I've been posting pictures because I can't find words. Blogs I've visited have either been quite eloquent about the disaster, or they're still fussing about their sex lives or their favorite music, or....(where ARE these folks' heads???).

But I came to post two quotes.
