I am highly unqualified for motherhood!

Friend Alanna forwarded the latest near-retirement-age pregnancy story to me. While she might have had one thing in mind when she sent it, I reacted to another: I was shocked to discover that, according to this particular fertility expert, it's a real wonder I have three kids.

Of the 63-year-old mother, he says,

"She came here with her husband, the couple love each other, she is very slim, blonde and in perfect condition, she fits all the criteria for maternity."
Even at the time of my pregnancies, I fit none of those criteria (to this day, I don't think my husband actually loved me; that's another story). But especially, I wasn't blonde!

Who knew blonde was a criterion for maternity? My kids are darn lucky to be here.

After I finished laughing, however, I was chilled by the unstated argument that certain genetic characteristics are more desirable than others. You know, blonde. Aryan.

beyond the blonde requirement (there are ways you could meet it if you wanted to... although, you shouldn't :) ) --I find it creepy that she's 63 an thinks having a child is a good idea. She'll be 64 when it is born and 80 when it can drive... it is a good thing because she'll NEED the kid to drive her around.
