Don't stand...don't stand so...don't stand so close to me...

This is the ultimate video of the Bush legacy. Seriously.

The troops look not at all happy about Bush's intrusion on their space. In fact, they look like they're going to throw up. The young man raises his eyebrows in exasperation, and the troops to the left of the young woman (her left) seem to be jostling her so as not to allow him in. She also throws in a little shoulder action to try to keep him out.

Maybe he smells bad.

And look how fast that gap closes up as soon Bush leaves it.

Patriots, all of them.

Is it January yet? Or, I Wonder What the AP Really Thinks of W?

Today my homepage offers an AP news story recapping the "summit of the 21-nation Asia-Pacific Economic forum," Bush's last visit to this gathering.

And this is the accompanying photo:

I really have nothing to add. Picture, thousand words, etc.

400 Days

Only 400 days left of the Bush Administration.

Only 400 days left to send billions upon billions of dollars into the economic sinkhole that is Iraq.

Only 400 days left to send countless soldiers to one of four fates: death, physical injury, PTSD, home well and in one piece.

Only 400 days left to wage war on Iran.

Only 400 days left to wage the war on terror just as the Three Stooges would. (That is, if Larry punches ya, ignore him and hit Curly...)

Only 400 days left to drag-foot on positive environmental policies.

Only 400 days left to further tarnish our reputation on the world stage.

Only 400 days left to push an energy policy that does little to nothing to implement ideas and technology that would help decrease consumption while simutaneously blaming consumers for consuming.

Only 400 days left to pad the bank accounts of energy executives and war profiteers.

Only 400 days left to push the ineffective strategy of abstinence-only sex ed.

Only 400 days left to advocate for the fetus while abandoning the infant.

Only 400 days left to pretend our country is doing something productive for those areas damaged by Katrina.

Only 400 days left.

If on day 401 we aren't looking forward to significant and positive change on all these issues and more, there simply is no hope for us.

A nice round number

600 more days for the Bush administration.

May the republic last that long.

Meet the Press for Idiots

If my pal F ever comes back here, she's really gonna love this one.

In the meantime, Alanna, this is what you miss by going to bed early.

Thanks goes out to Shakes.

Post-surge speech observation

The best-kept secret on the planet is that Bush plans a speech tonight about adding a surge of new troops to Iraq as his "new" strategy.

I feel the need to bring up a slogan that's a favorite of many 12-step groups:

Definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

799 and counting

The Official George W. Bush "Days Left In Office" Countdown clock rolled down to 799 at midnight. For the first time since I downloaded it, the number doesn't start with "8."

I'm working very hard on paying off two bills, and I get quite the thrill watching those numbers shrink each month. But nothing will excite me quite as much as watching that countdown clock hit zero.

George Bush Arrives; Charlie Crist Runs As Fast As He Can in the Other Direction

If Charlie Crist does win the governor's race (as is likely), he'll at least get a nod from me for displaying a little bit of good judgment in getting the hell away from George Bush(but I sure wish it wasn't the slimy John McCain he chose to stand next to):

A few years back, the popular Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was preparing for an election-eve "fly-around,'' a victory lap really, in which the governor would draw thousands to airport rallies. Charlie Crist, the Republican candidate for attorney general, wanted to climb on board to share in the love. But Bush had no room for Crist on the plane.

Today, President Bush has arrived in Florida for an election-eve rally for the Sunshine State's Republican ticket – a rally at which Attorney General Charlie Crist, running for governor to replace the retiring Jeb Bush, was supposed to introduce the president.

But Crist has bowed out as emcee. The GOP's candidates for governor in Arkansas and Texas will introduce the president at rallies today in Little Rock and Texas, but the GOP's candidate for governor in Florida has other plans. With his own seven-city fly-around, Crist plans to join Republican Sen. John McCain at a rally in Jacksonville today.

Where's Charlie? :)

Searching for answers

I picked up this simple but powerful ad at Shakespeare's Sister.

It speaks for itself -- or, perhaps, doesn't.
